Magic Cups are Magical

For those suffering through involuntary weight loss or dysphagia (swallowing difficulties), Hormel’s Magic Cups can be a magic-like solution. Manufactured by Hormel Health Labs, Magic Cups are four-ounce treats that, when frozen, serve as an ice cream substitute and at room temperature, a pudding substitute. No matter the consistency, they pack a high caloric, high protein punch in a small package along with 20 vitamins and minerals. They come in six varieties: vanilla, vanilla no sugar, chocolate, butter pecan, wild berry, and orange crème and all are now available at MagicKitchen.com here.

Magic Cups are marketed as a dietary supplement for those having difficulty maintaining or adding weight for a variety of reasons, such as surgery, illness, advanced age, or chemotherapy and/or radiation treatment due to cancer and for those who have swallowing difficulties or disorders. As such, they are utilized by numerous hospitals and retirement communities as snacks in between meals or as after meal desserts. They have also become extremely popular among those convalescing at home.

Magic Cups, aside from containing 290 calories (the no sugar vanilla has 260) and nine grams of protein per four ounce serving, also contain 40 grams of carbohydrates and 11 total grams of fat. They are also gluten free and are a good source of potassium and phosphorous. Additionally, Magic Cups contain 25 percent of the daily recommended amount of vitamin A, 40 percent RDA for vitamin C and at least 15 percent RDA for calcium and iron. Unopened, they have a shelf life of one year and a five-day shelf life after being opened with refrigeration necessary.

They also lend themselves to creative ways to meet the calorie needs of those at nutritional risk. For example, one can mix flavors together to add even more variety to those flavors already offered…think Neapolitan ice cream. You can also add some ice, milk and your favorite flavored Magic Cup to a blender to create a high calorie, high protein shake. Finally, for those without swallowing issues, add some healthy toppings, such as fruit and nuts, to add some texture and more flavor.

If you or someone you care for is at risk of losing weight or is currently underweight, for whatever reason, Magic Cups will assist in providing much needed calories, protein, vitamins and minerals which can, in turn, lead to maintaining or adding much needed weight. And do so with bold flavors and in either frozen or pudding form.

Along the lines of Magic Cups, MagicKitchen will soon be offering Hormel Mighty Shakes. These pre-mixed, frozen shakes offer a high calorie, high protein drink the consistency of nectar. Look for them at MagicKitchen.com soon!

What our Customers are Saying:

Magic kitchen is the only place I can find to purchase magic cups in a smaller quantity. I wanted to try new flavors, but did not want to purchase 24 at a time. That is a lot if you find you don’t care for the flavor. Magic kitchen allows me to get just three cups at a time. The perfect amount to try. Thank you magic kitchen for making it easier to find foods I am able to eat.
