March is National Frozen Food Month

We know, National Frozen Food Month might not matter much to you, but to us here at MagicKitchen.com, it’s kind of a big deal. After all, frozen food is what we do here, in fact, it’s all we do here and we do it well. Over the years, we’ve perfected our craft of acquiring the best and freshest ingredients, developing the tastiest recipes, cooking them to exacting standards, flash freezing them and shipping them to our customer’s door. So, you can see why this month is quite important to us. It, after all, celebrates what we do.

The Origins of National Frozen Food Month

…because I know you’re dying to know. Way back in 1945, a group of frozen food distributors got together and created the National Wholesale Frozen Food Distributors, a lobbying organization for the industry. Considering that the electric freezer was invented the same year, the fledgling organization struggled to gain traction. However, once electric freezers became available and affordable to most households, the organization grew quickly in size and power. In 1959, it changed its name to the National Frozen Food Association and changed it again in 2001 to the National Frozen and Refrigerated Foods Association (NFRA) which it is still known as today. Since March is the slowest month for the sales of frozen foods, the NFRA decided to change this with the creation of National Frozen Food Month in 1984 and it has occurred every year since.

The Joys of Frozen Food

  • They do not have an expiration date. So long as your freezer never loses power, MagicKitchen.com frozen meals will never go bad (although we do recommend you eat them within 30 to 45 days to ensure you do not lose any flavor or food value). You’ll never look at frozen food and wonder, “Is this still good?” as we often do with the food we find in the back of the fridge.
  • They have the same nutritional value as fresh foods. In fact, some fresh foods lose their nutritional value, especially fresh produce. Once they’re picked, fresh fruits and veggies begin to lose nutritional value as they spend days or weeks traveling to the grocery store, sitting in the produce section and then sitting some more in a fridge or on a countertop. Our foods are flash frozen immediately after being cooked, which helps lock in nutritional value.
  • It’s oh so convenient. Your MagicKitchen.com meals arrive at your door fully cooked. All that’s required of you is to store them in your freezer until you’re ready to enjoy them. Then, simply heat them in the microwave, on the stovetop or in your stove. Next, serve them up and enjoy a delicious and nutritious meal any time, no matter how busy your schedule.
  • They’re quite affordable, especially when you consider the time and effort you’ll save by not having to shop at the grocery store, prepping the food and then cooking it. As my father always told me, time is money.
  • Frozen food is NOT processed food. We add no unnecessary preservatives or chemicals to our meals. We also offer a variety of meals for specialized diets, such as gluten and dairy free, low fat, sodium and carb meals, diabetic and dialysis friendly and vegetarian.
  • Frozen food reduces food waste as you only thaw and cook what you need while keeping the rest frozen rather than sending it down the disposal or throwing it in the trash.
