Five Benefits of Working out with a Partner
How are you doing with your New Year’s resolutions? Was one of them to work out more often? Even if that means a walk a few times a week, it can be hard to keep up your motivation if you’re doing it on your own.
That’s why asking a friend or relative to jump onboard your workout wagon is a great idea, and one that will give you both better results and be more fun. If you’re not working out, check out this article for at home ideas! Or read about 10 ways to make fitness fun!
Here are five reasons to find a workout partner, no matter what your workout is.
- You’ll have more fun! Talking as you’re walking, laughing as you are doing a aerobics class, or bantering on the tennis court makes the workout more enjoyable.
- Stay Motivated – this is the biggest one for me. I have several friends I can count on to call me and get me out exercising every day. Without them, sitting at the computer or watching TV is an easier option. I’m always glad I get out instead. Another great idea if you have the time (and inclination) is to get a dog. Those little loveable faces will get you out every day. Walk with a friend and their dog for great times.
- Healthy Competition – Humans are competitive creatures, and a little challenge is a good thing. Walk a little faster, swim against a friend, or take a fitness class together. You’ll both get stronger faster.
- Accountability – You and I both know that if someone is going out to exercise and you’re not, you will get called out. If you’ve got a date for a gym workout, cancelling on a buddy is much more difficult than cancelling on yourself. The teasing alone is worth avoiding.
- Variety – If you get into a rut and start dreading your workout plans, talk to your workout buddy. Between the two of you, you can come up with a different plan and continue to enjoy the time!
So what are you waiting for? Find a workout buddy (or two) and start meeting your fitness goals, together!
