I know, we all have comfort foods and foods we were brought up on that we just have to have sometimes. Heck, that’s why it’s called comfort food. But some of the foods we love to eat are not that great for us. That’s why we’re providing this list of Healthy Alternatives to Traditional Foods! Try some of these out the next time a craving hits. You may be surprised!
Baked Potato
Instead of a heavy side dish, make the baked potato your whole dinner! Add a little BBQ Beef, red pepper, green onions and even a few baked pinto beans.
Fries
Maybe the hardest to resist, Try Crispy green beans, Roasted parsnip fries, Parmesan zucchini fries or make potato fries in an air fryer.
Cereal
Swap whole milk for semi-skimmed, 1% fat or even skimmed milk, and sugary cereals for wholegrain breakfast cereals. Look for added sugars on the label and avoid!
Cheese Slices
Just say no. There's a world of delicious cheese out there, try some. Flavorful cheeses like Manchego, Brie, Gruyere will make you rethink a grilled cheese.
Baking
Substitute applesauce for half the oil requested in cake and brownie recipes, and if you need decoration, try lowfat creamcheese frosting with a sugar substitute.
Pizza
So hard to resist. But with less cheese, and veggies instead of meat (or chicken instead of fatty meat), it's a lot healthier! Or try our Verdura Flatbread.
Nachos
Lighten these up by using baked tortilla chips, just a little really good cheese (like strong cheddar), and have some crunchy vegetables alongside. Pico de Gallo is better than sour cream!
